The Benefits of Receiving a Nursing Assistant Degree

Learn How a Nursing Assistant Degree Can Enhance Your Life

A Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) works as an aide or assistant to both Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practitioner Nurses (LPNs). CNAs, who are also called nurse’s aides, work in hospitals, nursing homes, private clinics, or private homes. Some of the work they perform includes helping a patient to eat, dressing a patient, changing bed linens, assisting the patient in bathing or using the bathroom, and other general patient care. Although CNAs do not always receive the same amount of recognition as RNs they are an indispensible part of the patient’s recovery and care in all manner of medical settings. If you are interested in working as a CNA below are some of the benefits to receiving your nursing assistant degree.

1. Low Cost of Entry

Acquiring a nursing assistant degree costs less money than a bachelor’s in nursing or other similar nursing degrees. Many RNs find that their schooling ends up costing them

more than they anticipated which can leave them with loans to repay even before they have obtained a job. A nursing assistant degree however is a cheaper alternative to somebody who wants to enter the health field without paying a lot of money.

2. Smaller Time Investment

It can take as long as two-four years to finish the schooling needed to obtain a degree as a nurse’s aide. Compared to the amount of time needed to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) the CNA degree barely takes any time. However, even though the time investment is low you will still be provided with all the tools necessary to join the workforce right away.

3. Large Amount of Jobs

Unlike many other industries experiencing stagnation due to the economy the health care industry is expected to continue growing at a rapid pace. In fact, most CNAs do not have a problem finding open positions at hospitals, nursing homes, private homes and a variety of other health care clinics. This is one of the reasons why the nursing assistant degree continues to be a popular program.

4. Stepping Stone to Higher Positions

Even if you want to become a RN getting your nursing assistant degree can be used as a stepping stone to other positions. You will learn a lot about the health care field and will work directly with nurses so that you can see for yourself what you can eventually expect.

About Miranda Torres

I first started my blog a few months after I began working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. I remembered my early struggles in trying to sift through all of the information about what schools were good for my career development. My goal here is to help people make informed decisions by providing valuable information on obtaining their Nursing Assistant Degree or higher. I try to take complicated accreditation and certification information and turn it into an easy-to-understand process. I am passionate about what I do because I have always enjoyed helping people in my personal life and now I can do this on an everyday basis. My blog here is an extension of that desire to help and inform.
